The version numbers of OS X
It is good to know the way Apple names the versions of OS X. It can be confusing That apple charges for small upgrades such as 10.3 - 10.4. Well, they don't. Or yes they do, but it's not like it looks.
Each 10.x is an own operating system (OS) in itself. A little update or bugfix normally changes the OS system from x.1 - x.2. But not in OS X, where a little bugfix or update makes 10.4.7 to 10.4.8. As I wrote before, 10.3.x and 10.4.x are two different operating systems.
So: The third number in the version number of OS X is to compare with the second number in the version number of other application or OS.
This does not concern the programs in OS X, only OS X.
Apple also gives each OS a Cat-name:
- Mac OS X 10.0 (Cheetah)
- Mac OS X 10.1 (Puma)
- Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar)
- Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther)
- Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

This article really use some structure and spell checking...
... that didn't come out well.
What I meant was that you ought to at least divide your text into separate paragraphs and make sure you've spelled every word correctly.
The subject is though very important, as it might be confusing for unaccustomed mac-users what Leopard really will be: an upgrade from 10.4.8 to 10.5.1 doesn't sound too extensive :-)
Sorry, I'm only 14 years.
I added the cat-names of the system but I can't make it look right! I want one line for each, but they just appear after each other.
If anybody know how to fix it, tell me!
Pressing enter twice when writing (so that one line is entirely blank) will create a new paragraph.
I helped you out with the formatting a bit. It's not easy to get how to do it since I haven't written a guide to it yet but I will soon.
I have no objections or criticism, - I am only terribly impressed to see that macmonstret is only 14. My compliments!

I couldn't agree more.
leopard was not mentioned as one of the operating systems for the mac. This is the system I have and would like to learn more about it. I enjoy reading about the Mac as this is my first one, I've switched from Windows and find it quite different. I'm sure I'll learn with the help of this forum. Thanks
